[English]
Abstract
In this study, a novel nanocomposite film based on basil seed mucilage (BSM) and different percentages of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) (0-7% w/w) was prepared by casting method with the aim of improving the properties of BSM film. Moisture content, water vapor permeability (WVP), opacity, UV absorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and morphology by scanning electron microscope (SEM) were tested on the films. The measurement results showed that with increasing CNC concentration, the WVP level decreased (23-33%) (p<0.05), and the lowest WVP value was observed in the film containing 5% CNC with a decrease of 33%. Also, the moisture content of the nanocomposites decreased significantly (10-23%). The thickness, UV absorbtion and turbidity of the film samples were not affected by CNC (p<0.05). The XRD patterns indicated a proper distribution of CNC particles in the polymer matrix. Also, the examination of the film morphology showed that in the presence of CNC up to a concentration of 5%, the surface of the films was homogeneous and without cracks, bubbles, and nanoparticle aggregations. Overall, adding 5% CNC into the BSM film making solution had a better effect on nanocomposites compared to other levels, strengthened and improved some properties.
